Dear Friends,
Welcome all of you to the 16th International Symposium on River Sedimentation (ISRS2025), held in Omaha, NE, USA in Aug. 4-7, 2025. Omaha is located at the heart of the United States map. It is a great city for all kinds of people. It has a lot of cultural and natural attractions, such as the Omaha Children's Museum, the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium (Voted #1 Zoo in the US), the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, and so on. It is also the hometown of Warren Buffett, the Oracle of Stocks. Therefore, if you want to know how to invest in stocks, come to Omaha, Nebraska!
The University of Nebraska—Lincoln is well-known for water resources research and management. We are therefore proud to hold this symposium and provide a platform for water and sediment scientists, engineers, and decision makers to come together to exchange their recent achievements and experiences.
The theme of this symposium is “Centennial of Modern Sediment Transport Mechanics.” This is because both bed load and suspended load transport equations were established in 1925 by Exner and Schmidt, respectively, which formed the fundamentals of modern sediment transport mechanics. In this symposium, we will celebrate the achievements of sediment research in the last one hundred years and discuss how we advance water and sediment sciences in the next one hundred years.
Finally, we have set up a symposium website at https://isrs2025.org or https://isrs2025.iahr.org/. We are looking forward to seeing you in Omaha, NE, USA. Let us work together to make a difference for water and sediment research in the next one hundred years!
Sincerely,
Junke Guo
